Inspired by the 80/20 rule aka the Pareto Principle or anything that a few are more important and many are less important, FreelanceSwitch folks has developed yet another useful online app that will greatly help freelancers. This time, an online tool that will gauge the importance of one's clients - The Client Analyser.
I've tried it myself and although it didn't provide any information that I'm not yet aware of, I can imagine this tool to be of great help to those with lots of clients, say those servicing about 20-50 clients.
The Client Analyser used the following criteria in identifying the clients that you should be looking for more of:
- Number of referrals the client generated
- Earned money from the last 12 months
- Your effective hourly rate for the client
- Stress levels when working with the client
- Added credibility that the client brings
- Timeliness of payment
Go check the The Client Analyser for yourself. But again, as how many online tools should be treated, don't take it too seriously since there are many other factors that should be considered in gauging the importance of clients. Although the earnings is undoubtedly one of biggest factors, I also value the personal growth that my clients unknowingly contribute to.
Something to ponder
If given the chance to choose between two regular clients one who is decisive and friendly and gives your mid-sized accounts and the other a cranky, disrespectful client, can't get enough of confusing you with his instructions, but gives you big projects, who will you choose?
