Another Productivity Goal feature that I'd love to continue doing here is the One Question Interview. For my first interview post I present to you one of the nicest, easiest-to-work-with persons I've ever known- Lea Woodward, a Location Independent Professional who has extensive experience in business and wellness coaching.
If you're wondering what a location independent professional is, it's another term for the modern nomads or vagabonds - entrepreneurs whose delish lifestyle revolves around traveling the world indefinitely while working. Curious? Lea Woodward's Location Independent Professional has lots of great information from
business ideas for people who'd like to work from anywhere, payment options, countries that modern nomads should not miss, and many more. She has even written a book - X Marks the Spot with chock full of tips and tricks from first-hand experience of course as a modern nomad. Lea also blogs for top freelancing blogs - Web Worker Daily and FreelanceSwitch.
Without further ado, here's my question for Lea:
What are your top 3 productivity tips for mobile workers (and wannabes)?
Lea says...
1) As I'm often working from exotic locations (or at least somewhere new and exciting that we've chosen to visit for a few months), one way we stay productive is to plan our work time around the fun activities we want to do. I often find that if I have lots of time to work on something, my tasks stretch out to easily fill that time. If, on the other hand, I have 'self-set deadlines' then I am much more productive and can focus on getting the critical things done far more quickly.
2) Before sitting down at my laptop, I make a list of exactly what I want to achieve. If I don't do that, then I have been known to spend ages checking stats, surfing, checking out Facebook, twittering or whatever else I'm not really meant to be doing!
3) If you are mobile - whether typical business travel or the kind that we do - then putting certain things in your business on autopilot helps tide you over the times when you're in transit or settling in to a new place. There is nothing that helps me be more productive than knowing I'm not going to be able to work for a few days.
Thanks for taking time to participate, Lea. More power and I hope to be able to follow your footsteps soon!
