Indeed, discipline is important for there are joys in life that we can achieve as long as we maintain self-discipline. But like anything that we do excessively, it can be bad.  And heres my favorite part of Samuel Bryson's piece about Desire and Discipline.

Admittedly some discipline is needed as there is no way we can enjoy every thing we do in life, but surely we can make some activities more enjoyable, in turn making them easier to commit to and thus making them require less discipline!
