A few years ago, I tried to test the waters of working as a call center agent. So I took a call center short term course and after completion, I agreed to be endorsed to the best call center companies near my location.
While waiting for my turn for an interview, I saw lots of these posters informing people about the company's referral program and can't help but notice that the money's good.
I was wondering back then why is that company can shell out that much money although I see hundreds of applicants every time I go to the building. I did my research and found out about the high turnover rate.![]()
It was sickeningly high that companies don't think twice to give hefty sums of money to people who can refer new employees.
Now that I've become more exposed to different methods of making people happy at work, I'm thinking that the high turnover rate can be abated if only companies learn how to be Googly.
"Googly", a word coined in 2008 by the company, is about being different as a corporate organisation in providing unbelievable benefits for its employee. The bottom-line is to make the employees feel at home in their working environments.
If you haven't learned about it yet, Google got the top spot on the list of 100 Best Companies to Work for in 2007. Check out life in the Googleplex for some proof. There goes the not-so-secret way of making life more than just tolerable for employees.
Any company that tries to emulate Google's treatment of its employees will be more likely to decrease its turnover rate than just pushing a referral program, won't it?
