
December 22 is Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. Also known as midwinter or solar new year, it's known as the shortest day and the longest night and it's astronomically considered as the middle or beginning of the winter.
However, although Winter Solstice is often associated with merriments (read: Winter Solstice festival), it also causes different sicknesses and seasonal depression. These bad effects of Winter Solstice are attributed to the circadian rhythm (internal clock of the body) destructive shorter periods of exposure to sunlight and the cold climate that make people prone to diseases and depression.
