I've forgotten about spontaneity for quite some time now ever since I started working on my virtual assistant business. However, my friends still forget every now and then that I can't be as spontaneous as before since my clients require me to be there for them virtually all the time.
Just like today, one of my best friends invited me to come with her for a holiday week-long vacation to a far-off place where there might be no Internet
connection - a big no-no for my work.
But like everyone does, I know that I do need a break every now and then so I said yes and started polishing things that might cause problems if ever I really can't find decent Internet connection.
Here are some suggestions that I'm sure many entrepreneurs who would like to have a stress-free holiday vacation would benefit from:
Prepare early
What can be more stressing than doing last-minute preparations? Book your travel and accommodations days or even weeks before leaving. Perform all the business errands that need your urgent attention. List down all the things that need to be accomplished asap and do them asap.
Delegate tasks
Depending on the services or products you offer, it's important to keep the wheel running even when you're in vacation. The best way to ensure that things still run smoothly even without your physical presence is to find someone (if you don't have an assistant yet) to continue working on your projects. Stop being a control-freak and let someone do some of the business tasks for you.
Inform clients that you're on a holiday vacation
It won't hurt show them that you're a human after all and not a robot who don't need vacations. As long as you continue doing quality work after your vacation, many clients won't mind it, really. This will make you feel less stressed while on vacation because you know that your clients are not expecting you to be at their beck and call as reachable during this period.
Stay connected
If you're like me who can't live without Internet, you will definitely have to look for accommodations with wi-fi or do research and take note of your holiday vacation spot's hotspots. But avoid checking your email inbox as frequent as when you're working or you might ruin your vacation. Remember, you're going on a vacation to relax and recharge.
If it's your first time and you are wearing all the hats in your business since it's a startup, this vacation will serve as a quality downtime so don't be too worried. It will do your business better since you'll come back refreshed and ready to continue seizing the day. Enjoy your vacation - you so deserve it!
