In the quest for personal development, we know all about affirmations and how they can positively impact our lives. Repeating something simple like, "I no longer choose to believe in the negative influences from my past" really can bolster self-esteem.
In the quest for business development, most of us know about the elevator speech. You know, the "this is who I am, this is what my company does, and this is how it can help you" speil in sixty seconds or less. These mini-speeches, because of the thought it takes to keep them brief, build clarity and focus.
John Wesley, at Pick the Brain, is now suggesting we invest some time to create a mix of the two, a Personal Commercial.
" . . . opportunities to listen to a great speaker are few and far between. You can fill this need by creating a personal commercial. Write a 30-60 second speech that highlights your strengths and goals. Then recite it in front of the mirror aloud (or inside your head if you prefer) whenever you need a confidence boost." --John Wesley, 10 Ways to Instantly Build Self Confidence, Pick the Brain
Not a bad idea at all; if combining affirmations and elevator speeches into personal commercials results in higher self-esteem, clarity, focus, and self confidence, it's well worth the time it takes to try it.
