"What if we try doing it that way?" "Because no one will go for it and we've always done it this way." Not much room for argument there. Of course, that also means there's not much room for growth. And there isn't any chance to stand out in the middle of the crowd. And forget about changing; that just ain't gonna happen.
Well, if we never did it that way, who says no one will go for it? Think about how we'd be living if we always "did it this way".
"Think of greatness any way you like. I’m looking at greatness as being a forethinker; someone who looks at a problem and finds the solution that few - if no one - is considering." --Dawud Miracle, How Being Unreasonable Can Make You Great, dawudmiracle
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the conditions that surround him… The unreasonable man adapts surrounding conditions to himself… All progress depends on the unreasonable man.” --George Bernard Shaw
We need to learn to appreciate that acting on new and different ideas can
produce wonderful results. Those wonderful results lead to innovation that splits the crowd. Of course, we don't all get a piece of the pie! We get a whole bunch of new pies!
"If you aren't already finding your own lush pastures, maybe it's time you stopped settling for someone else's scraps." --Olivier Blanchard, Bob Dylan on Fresh Ideas & Innovation, The Brand Builder Blog
"Don't be afraid not to follow the herd - because where the herd's gone, the food is already eaten." --Bob Dylan
We need to accept that we can, indeed, be great. Simply by bringing that new idea, or even a new twist on an old idea, into fruition, we've made a few steps into having an impact on some part of life. To the point, we'll have made an impact on some part of our lives.

Right on, Carolyn. I've found over the years that it's important to cut your own trail. Since I've climbed, I think of mountaineering...
If I don't try new routes, I'll never witness the unique beauty others have never seen - both from the side of the mountain as well as inside myself. The new routes lead to unexpected challenges. It means more work, often struggle. It may mean backtracking a bit and it will likely take longer. But the reward of doing something new...the exhileration of succeeding the impossible...that's what makes the effort worth it.
