The work of Rich McIver is back at ProductivityGoal.  This time, Rich published a rich piece of Internet history, Top 10 Most Famous Hackers of All Time at IT Security.

In the hacking world, we have the good guys, the White Hat Hackers, and the bad buys, the Black Hat Crackers.  In this 12-part series, we’ll look at the bad guys first.  Some of these Black Hat Crackers worked their exploitive talents because the challenge existed, some because they were looking for easy personal gain.  Regardless of their individual reasons, each of them taught the Internet valuable lessons. 

There’s no difference between white hat hackers and black hat hackers in WHAT they do; the difference lies in WHY they do it.  Throughout this series, we'll see that the black hats often abuse computer systems and operate without permission, sometimes because they have no permission.  White hats, on the other hand, are considered to be ethical hackers and are generally, but not always, hired by owners of companies to find security flaws in networks.
