![]() Via Lifehacker I found a funny post on Guy Kawasaki’s site about how his computer nearly died and he realized he had no backup of it. Actually, the post is about why smart people do dumb things, not backing up the computer being one of them. The book, Why Smart People Do Dumb Things, suggests that hubris, arrogance, narcissism and unconscious need to fail make people get stupid.
Under the arrogance heading, I would add that people rarely want to waste time doing anything that has no immediate payoff and may never be needed. Here in earthquake country, having disaster supplies on hand certainly qualifies.
What do you blow off, blithely convinced it will never come back to haunt you? I know people who never sync their PDA’s, not even once! How about not putting money in the parking meter because you’ll only be 2 minutes?
