Realizing that even if you backslide you’re still making progress as long as you don’t quit
Just like with that stock you’re holding onto. On paper, you may have lost a lot of money, but the price could always go back up. You haven’t lost if you don’t sell.
Persistence is a quality I’ve been working to develop in myself. My tendency is to give up on something if it doesn’t work right away. Now I realize that it makes more sense to gauge progress by the effort I put in, not the results.
Of course, you want results ultimately, but if you focus more on what you’re putting in today rather than what should be coming out or will be coming out or what’s not coming out, you’ll have less anxiety and stress about the whole project.
This doesn’t mean nose to the grindstone effort, it just means continuing to move forward, at whatever pace is reasonable for you.
