
Scott writes that everyone has their own "Stimulation and Excitement Quota." It's human nature to need these and she calls it a sign of maturity to recognize it and then deal with it productively. When it's not recognized, people are more prone to seeking negative stimulation in the form of chronic lateness, procrastination and unproductive attention-getting behavior.
Someone who's unaware of her need for attention and stimulation may always be late to the weekly staff meeting. She interrupts the speaker by apologizing for arriving late, squeezes past as many people as possible to take her seat and stage whispers more apologizes to those seated near her. Not only does she get everyone's attention, she forces them to give her their time.
Annoying as it is for others, she's really just seeking stimulation and excitement. In my next posts I'll suggest some ways to get it.
