You really can't go too small when creating change. Change may be simple, but it's not always easy. It may seem like a no-brainer to spend 2 minutes sorting your mail everyday, but it's not the amount of time or difficulty of the task that's important, it's simply the fact that it's change.
My taiko teacher advised the class to practice drumrolls (oroshi) just 5 minutes a day to improve our skills. It didn't even have to be 5 consecutive minutes. We could stop and start at will (or when our wrists got tired). But 5 minutes a day, heck, who couldn't fit that in?
Later when I got home I started thinking about all the 2 minute, 5 minute or 8 minute odd tasks I set myself everyday. When I begin them, they seem like a piece of cake. It's just 2 minutes! But even tiny chunks of time can add up quickly. Such small items hardly seem worth noticing, which means they often don't make it onto the calendar or to do list.
Give yourself a break. Small changes, regularly practiced, is the key.
