What’s your preferred decision-making style? Do you go with spontaneous feelings use a structured method of weighing options? People tend to think of themselves as intuitive “feely” types or as thinking “logical” types, but you can use a combination of methods to good effect.
Sometimes when I’m faced with a tough decision, I make a list of the pros and cons. I look at it every day for a week or so (this works best for decisions that don’t have to be made right away). One morning when reading the list I discover that I’ve made a decision. And I don’t necessarily choose the option that got the most pros vs. cons. It’s the one my gut tells me to choose.
I think this works because even if I had an initial gut feeling about the issue, I needed to sort out and air my thoughts about the problem. This way I’m approaching it from both sides and I have more confidence in my final, usually intuitive, decision.
