When people think they can't possibly achieve their goals, it's often because they are looking only at the big picture, the Mt. Everest, the grand finale. If you've set high goals, it can be pretty darn lofty. Good for you!
But on a daily basis, you have to turn your eyes away from the mountain and concentrate on the section of path that's before you today. Concentrate on your goal-ettes, or the smaller steps that will get you to the final goal. Make them as small as you need to; you will still make progress. Try not to stress out about how long it's taking to reach your goal. Accept that you will get there if you keep moving toward it.
If you didn't get through your to-do list today, move the undone items to tomorrow's list and try again tomorrow. Or start making shorter lists, or start leaving off things that you don't really need to do. Every day provides you with a fresh opportunity to improve on yesterday; look at it like a feedback system helping you move forward.
- Set a goal.
- Devise steps to get there (you can start with just one).
- Acknowledge and reward your progress.
- Adjust your course as necessary.
- Take the next step.
- Repeat 2-5 until success is achieved, then go back to 1.

Claire -- these are helpful ideas for those of us who carry busy schedules... and I like the idea of bite-sized pieces for the big projects, as a way of avoiding panic. This will be a useful blog! Ellen
