Don't Make People Delete Your Email

I often recommend that people delete group FYI emails without even reading them. Those are the ones that aren't from a specific project group (you should be expecting those). They're either from someone who has blanketed the company with email, or they contain some kind of “news” that most likely doesn't affect your work. If it does, you'll find out about it sooner or later.

It follows that if you are sending an email, DO NOT address it to a large group if you want a specific response. Don't expect one of your many recipients to single herself or himself out to help. If you need to write to a group because everyone should know what everyone else is doing, use the body of the email to direct your requests to individuals by name.
